When beauty shines through
– Previously, the lights on our mezzanine floor were always on, whether anyone was there or not. Now it’s only lit where it’s really needed – why should it be lit if no one is there, says Richard Persson, warehouse manager at IsaDora.
We got a huge difference in energy consumption – despite more machines on the premises, says
Richard Persson, warehouse manager at IsaDora.
When IsaDora decided to move its production from Switzerland back to Sweden, one of the main objectives was to make the new production facility as sustainable and energy efficient as possible. A large part of that energy improvement came from upgrading the lighting system. The existing lighting, consisting of ageing fluorescent tubes, was inefficient and in need of replacement.
Whether you’re an avid makeup user or prefer to let your natural beauty shine through, the name IsaDora is sure to be familiar to you. The Swedish cosmetics brand, founded in 1983, offers an extensive range of high-quality makeup products – everything from foundation to lipstick and nail polish. From the shelves of your local grocery store to the duty-free shops on cruise ships, IsaDora has a visible presence all over the world. What many may not know is that the company is not only Swedish in name, but also manufactures its products here in Sweden, more specifically in Malmö. As Sweden’s largest beauty brand, IsaDora has established itself as a leading player in the global beauty industry.
Rickard Persson, Warehouse Manager at IsaDora, explains why they upgraded their lighting;
– To run a sustainable business in the long term, we are constantly looking for sustainable alternatives that can reduce our energy consumption and our impact on the environment. We knew we needed to replace the old fluorescent tubes that were drawing a lot of unnecessary electricity and had probably been in operation since the building was constructed.
IsaDora Facts
IsaDora is Sweden’s leading makeup brand and has offered high-quality makeup since 1983. IsaDora wants to give everyone the opportunity to set their own beauty standards by offering affordable, safe and easy-to-use premium products.
Demand for high quality and Swedish solutions
To meet their demands for high quality and Swedish-made solutions, IsaDora chose Exaktor as the supplier for the new lighting system. Exaktor supplied lighting for the production facility, warehouse, offices, conference rooms and restrooms. By using modern luminaires with improved efficiency and light distribution, IsaDora was able to reduce the number of luminaires by almost half from the previous installation.
But the real energy savings came through Exactor’s smart control system, BTDA. By using sensors in each luminaire, the lighting can be individually controlled based on presence, meaning that light is only used where it is really needed. Using a mobile app, users can track energy savings in real time and identify areas of high activity through a heat-map function.
– We used to have a mezzanine floor where the lights were always on, whether anyone was there or not. Now it’s only lit where it’s really needed – why should it be on if no one is there? It’s crazy, says Richard.
Lights up where people move
The Exaktor control system allows users to either let the system automatically adapt to people’s movements or to set different lighting scenarios themselves. In addition, the capacity of the lighting can be reduced by 80%, further reducing energy consumption.
Rickard also notes that despite the fact that more machines have been installed in the premises at the same time as the lighting upgrade there was a
marked reduction in electricity consumption.
– We really noticed a huge difference in electricity consumption. Despite having more machines on the premises, we managed to reduce consumption compared to before, and it was clear that lighting played a big part in this, explains Richard.
By choosing sustainable lighting and efficient control, IsaDora has not only reduced its environmental impact but also improved its energy efficiency and thus its long-term economic sustainability.
